How to bend shields back into shape.

Sometimes, STC's Scenic Painter Laura Lowe's dog Posie visits the paint shop. She says,

Posie the dog helps STC's Charge Scenic Artist Sally Glass figure out how deep they wanted the leaves to be on stage. This 2 ft x 2 ft square is about 1,000 leaves.

The paint shop separated, painted, and flame-proofed 70,000 leaves. Originally, they were considering 140,000.

Props intern Jesse Goodwin strips off paint – heraldry from a previous show.

430 wooden planks were painted and sealed to cover the floor and walls for the set.

The Paint Shop tested 10 different types of flame-retardants on the leaves, three of which were developed by a company called Turning Star specifically for this show. They took 28 videos while conducting the tests to see how the leaves reacted during a vertical flame test and immersing a match into a small pile.

The artistic team, including Director Alan Paul, visits the Paint Shop and tests out leaves.

STC's Prop Shop Director Chris Young says,

From shop to stage! On the left, everything our Prop Shop needed to fit into the top of the cane, with help from LED Supply (www.ledsupply.com) who helped us put together a simple system. On the right, STC Affiliated Artist Ted van Griethuysen as Merlyn with his light-up cane onstage.
