Washington, D.C. July 19, 2021—Single sale tickets for Shakespeare Theatre Company’s pre-season limited engagement performances of both James Baldwin’s The Amen Corner and Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski starring David Strathairn go on sale today at 9 a.m. ET.
Deemed “a not-to-be-missed production of a great American work” (MD Theatre Guide), THE AMEN CORNERwill return to STC for a two-week run September 14-26, 2021 at Sidney Harman Hall. Directed by STC Associate Director and Obie Award and Lilly Award-winning Director Whitney White, the play was a critical and commercial success, but its original run was curtailed in March 2020 by the pandemic. The “outstanding cast with some of the best, and most soulful, choir-trained voices from D.C.’s musical theatre scene” (Whisk and Quill) includes previously announced returning cast members including Tristan André, E. Faye Butler, Mia Ellis, Francese, Chiké Johnson, Jade Jones, Phil McGlaston, Nia-Aiyana Meeks, Robert E. Person, Jasmine M. Rush, Theodore Sapp, Lauryn Simone, Deidra LaWan Starnes, and Antonio Michael Woodard. Howard University faculty member and frequent actress at Studio Theatre and Mosaic Theater Company Roz White (Dreamgirls National Tour) will join the cast as Odessa.The revival allows James Baldwin’s masterpiece to reach even more audiences in the District as the theatres safely return to full-capacity seating with safety guidelines established. In October, Academy Award nominee DAVID STRATHAIRN (Good Night, and Good Luck; Nomadland) makes his STC debut in a captivating performance in REMEMBER THIS: THE LESSON OF JAN KARSKI, written by DEREK GOLDMAN and CLARK YOUNG, and directed by Goldman. Jan Karski was a courier for the Polish Underground, who smuggled vital information and his own eyewitness reports of the destruction of the Jewish people to America and eventually the White House. Remember This explores the life and legacy of this revered Holocaust witness, diplomat, activist, and Georgetown University professor who was imprisoned, tortured, and almost broken before becoming “Humanity’s Hero.” Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski will be at the Michael R.
