Romeo & Juliet is Coming to the Embassy of Italy, DC

Washington, D.C. – To celebrate their forthcoming production of Romeo & Juliet, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute-Embassy of Italy.  On Tuesday, August 30 at 7 p.m., lead cast members from the show will perform select scenes of the play during a cultural evening at the Embassy.  Guests will also have the opportunity to meet the cast and discover more about the production with its director, STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul.

Over the years, STC has performed at other embassies, but this is the first time the company has worked with the Italian Embassy.

Director Alan Paul said: “The play takes place in Verona, Italy, so this is the perfect collaboration to celebrate Shakespeare, Italy, and Italian culture. It’s wonderful  to have the opportunity to perform against a genuine Italian backdrop in the beautiful splendor of the Embassy.”

The Director of the Italian Cultural Institute said: “We’re delighted to partner with STC and the talented cast of Romeo & Juliet. Every year people travel to Verona to visit the place where Romeo wooed Juliet, so we’re pleased to present the play and a taste of Italy to D.C.”

Romeo and Juliet follows two star-crossed teenage lovers caught tragically between their feuding families. Performances begin at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th St NW) on September 13 and the show will run through November 6.
