FREE FILMS FOR ALL, THE SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER HIT AT THE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE COMPANY, GETS A SEQUEL AUGUST 23-25, 2019

August 15, 2019, Washington, D.C.: In the grand tradition of films such as The Godfather II, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Empire Strikes Back, From Russia With Love, Die Hard With a Vengeance, and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, the Shakespeare Theatre Company has decided that its first summer film festival  FREE FILMS FOR ALL, inaugurated in July 2019, was such a success that it deserves its own sequel. STC welcomes movie-lovers of all ages to Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St. NW) for more Free Films For All screenings on August 23–25, 2019.

Inspired by “STC’s irreplaceable Free For All summer tradition” (BYT), an annual opportunity to see a world-class theatre production for free, STC decided to keep its doors open for the summer season, offering a welcoming film series. The first Free Films For All selections included Shakespeare-inspired teen comedies She’s the Man and 10 Things I Hate About You as well as several films for younger viewers: Spider Man: Into the Spider-verse, Moana, and The Little Mermaid.

“For many children in attendance,” states Executive Director Chris Jennings, “this was their first time at our theatre. The children’s films are a nice introduction to our new family programming initiative. We hope these families will come back to our world premiere of Peter Pan by Lauren Gunderson for swashbuckling pirates, mischievous fairies, and flying Lost Boys.”

The second Free Films For All series from August 23-25 will feature five summer blockbusters, including two more films for families: Jurassic Park, Legally Blonde, Clueless, Inside Out, and The Princess and the Frog.
