Perhaps the most psychologically complex and most intensely debated play in literature, the deliberations of the doomed prince commanded to avenge his father’s murder contains some of the most beautiful poetry ever written. Wallace Acton, most recently seen as Richard II last season, returns as Shakespeare’s tragic hero. Joining The Shakespeare Theatre as director is Gale Edwards, acclaimed Australian opera and theatre director, whose production of The White Devil premiered at the Olympic Arts Festival in Sydney last summer before coming to the Brooklyn Academy of Music this winter, where her production of Don Carlos for the Royal Shakespeare Company played in 1999.
