Fuento Ovejuna takes its name from a Spanish village which rebels against its military tyrant. Completed in 1614, this play is a true story of oppression, rape, a rebellion led by a young woman, lynching and courage under torture—told by the playwright with exhilarating vitality in a vibrant new translation. René Buch, artistic director of one of this country’s most important Hispanic theatre companies, Repertorio Espanol, has won numerous accolades including the prestigious Obie Award for Sustain Excellence of Direction.
