Edwin Schiff – Costume Tech Intern. I assist with making the designers’ designs come to life by constructing costumes.

Favorite movie growing up and why.
Parent Trap, the one with LiLo (Lindsay Lohan). Those girls had the best of both worlds, the fabulosity, class and fashion of London along with the cool fun of California.
Most rewarding moment so far at STC/why you’re glad you work here.
Opening night of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was the first show I worked on here and seeing my work onstage (I made Oberon’s coat) was both rewarding and humbling. It’s when I fully realized that these people (STC) don’t play around when it comes to putting on a show. They only put their best on stage and knowing that I was a part of that was an amazing feeling.
Coolest place you’ve visited/thing you’ve done in D.C.
I love food so naturally I’ve taken advantage of the diverse cuisine that D.C. has to offer. Some places to check out: Ted’s Bulletin, D.C. Pho, Good Stuff Eatery, Ben’s Chili Bowl.
Piece of advice for applicants.
Be bold, be professional and have a desire to learn. Oh, and don’t be afraid to show off how fabulous you are.

I’m Caitlin Rain, the 2012-13 Costume Design Intern. What I do ranges from the glamorous – going to NYC for fittings with Tony-winning designers (and West Wing alums!) – to the not-so-glamorous –foraging several armies’ worth of rehearsal shoes from the “John Malkovich closet”.

Favorite movie growing up and why.
The Philadelphia Story — bubbly, sophisticated fun with Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart, plus the best impression of a hangover ever committed to film.
Most rewarding moment so far at STC/why you’re glad you work here.
Experiencing the inner workings of such a large costume shop, full of so many accomplished and creative people, is always a great experience. By seeing all aspects of costume production over an extended period of time, I’m learning much more about how design interacts with production, and how to be a thoughtful and engaged designer.
Coolest place you’ve visited/thing you’ve done in D.C.
Living right by the Mall has been great – there are several spots I like to visit over and over in the National Gallery, the Botanical Garden, and the Hirshhorn Museum. It’s been very cool to have these world-class museums just down the block, not to mention they’re free. I also have to put in a good word for brunching in D.C. – they take their eggs benedict seriously here!
Piece of advice for applicants.
Know that you’ll get the most out of your time here by keeping your eyes and ears open. You’re here to work, and how much you learn is under your control. I don’t mean that STC is an unfriendly environment – quite the opposite – but it is a professional one.

Probably Miss Congeniality, because Sandra Bullock is the s#%t and I was/am super klutzy… and I always wanted to be a secret agent.

Piece of advice for applicants.
Don’t be afraid to be outgoing and take all the opportunities and hang-outs. Time goes quicker than you think.
