Shakespeare Theatre Company, located in Washington DC, seeks an Assistant Director for its mainstage productions of Much Ado About Nothing (directed by Simon Godwin), Jane Anger (directed by Jess Chayes), and King Lear (directed by Simon Godwin, starring Patrick Page). The commitment begins October 3, 2022 and ends on April 2, 2023. During that time, this will be a full-time position with excellent benefits and a weekly salary of $820.

Candidates should have experience as an Assistant Director on at least two professional productions, a working knowledge of Shakespeare/classics, and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. When not in rehearsal, the Assistant Director may be asked to assist with other projects in the Artistic department. The Shakespeare Theatre Company, a multi-venue LORT B+ theatre, seeks part time Assistant House Managers. Under the direction of the Front of House Manager, this position serves as a key member in welcoming our patrons to the theatre, ensuring their safety, and creating a memorable experience. This position serves as a brand ambassador for Shakespeare theatre Company  during the regular season and provides support for various special events which have included past presentations by The Washington Ballet, Congressional Black Caucus, The Atlantic Festival, Netflix, and many others.

Responsibilities for this position include training and working alongside ushers, greeting and seating patrons, being confident discussing our shows and events, and maintaining a high level of customer care and safety under the direction of the Front of House Manager. This is a part-time position with an hourly rate of $17.00.

The successful candidate will have superior people skills, an upbeat and positive manner, can work both independently and collaboratively, the ability to work quickly, accurately, and calmly under pressure, resolve issues in a positive and respectful manner and value the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Must be able to confidently lead and direct large crowds. A background in face-to-face customer service is preferred, knowledge of theatre is a plus. Must be available for at least two shifts per production, including nights and weekends. Must be able to lift 15 lbs. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age. [accordion-item title=”Assistant Master Electrician”]

The Shakespeare Theatre Company, a prominent multi-venue LORT B+ theatre in Washington DC seeks an Assistant Master Electrician (AME). Due to our two venues and overlapping production schedule, the AME will often stand in for the Master Electrican, representing the department when needed at production meetings/tech rehearsals, etc. This position frequently supervises staff and overhire crews, runs focus calls, and maintains a safe workplace. The AME is further responsible for assisting the Master Electrician in planning departmental needs for all productions and rentals, tracking maintenance needs, maintaining departmental paperwork and calendar, scheduling staff, acting as an occasional swing for staff electricians, and other duties as required. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and an annual salary of $50,000.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelors in technical theatre, or equivalent professional experience, and at least 3-5 years as an electrician in a theatrical environment. Must be comfortable supervising a crew/running a call, have basic electronics knowledge, be able to use standard hand and power tools safely, be able to read and understand technical drawings, have knowledge of Vectorworks and Lightwright, be familiar with ETC Eos, and Express consoles. The successful candidate must be able to safely and competently use a Genie lift, ladders, manual counterweight rigging systems, and chain hoists. Excellent multitasking and computer skills are and absolute must. This position regularly lifts 50-75 lbs unaided and works at heights.  Capability to work in dark/dim settings required. The Shakespeare Theatre Company, located in downtown Washington DC, seeks a Box Office Manager. This position is a key component in the Audience Services department, and supervises all box office operations, including hiring, training, and scheduling of all full- and part-time Box Office Associates, phone and face-to-face customer service to our patrons, and managing the ticketing operations in our software, Tessitura. In addition, the Manager tracks ticket inventory, reviews and submits timesheets for payroll, and reconciles financial information for the Business Department. This position works in conjunction with the Retail and Concessions Manager and the Front of House Manager and, with the Director of Audience Services, ensures the highest quality customer service to our patrons. The box office is often the first point of contact with a patron, and the Box Office Manager must keep that knowledge at the forefront of decisions and actions within the box office. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and an annual salary of $52,300.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of box office experience, one year of supervisory experience, excellent computer skills, and superior communication and customer service. Experience in the Tessitura CRM software is required. Must be dependable, punctual, outgoing, and enjoy working with a team. Evenings and weekend work is required, as well as some holidays. [accordion-item title=”Overhire Design Assistant”]

Working under the direction of the Resident Costume Design Assistant, Shakespeare Theatre Company is seeking a Design Assistant for two shows this upcoming season.  The dates of employment are following (exact start & end dates are flexible):  for Much Ado About Nothing September 13th, 2022 – December 2nd, 2022; and for King Lear January 3rd, 2023 – March 17th, 2023.  This is a temporary overhire position which will require 40 hours per week with some additional overtime and an hourly pay rate of $20.50.

The candidate will be responsible for helping to source and purchase for the shows, as well as inputting budget information in a timely manner.  They will also be responsible for tracking packages and completing returns. Some local in-store purchasing and returning will be required, so knowledge of local stores and comfort navigating the DMV area will be a plus.  Other responsibilities will include coordinating for & assisting understudy fittings, show paperwork, costume restock, helping facilitate fittings and tech, and other tasks as needed.

Candidates should have a flexible schedule and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Please note that STC has a mandatory vaccination policy, along with other safety requirements due to COVID-19.  A valid driver’s license is also required.
